For those of us who have had a baby or more than one, we all know how hard it can be to lose the extra weight after giving birth. Some women seem to stay very skinny during the entirety of their pregnancy while most of us gain quite a bit of weight. With a busy life and busy schedule and a newborn to take care of, going to extremes to lose weight can be nearly impossible. There is work to be done, feeding, changing diapers, cleaning, and much much more. How do some women seem to find the time to prepare healthy meals and snacks? And how do they find the time to get in the exercise needed to get back in shape after baby?
For many of us this can just seem near impossible. We see celebrities who stay tiny throughout their pregnancy and don’t really even have any extra pounds to shed after giving birth. How do these women do it? For one, many of these women are already on extreme diets with intense workout plans long before they even get pregnant. They also have teams of people working for them day in and day out simply to keep up their appearance. For those of us who live average lives, this can be difficult. Often times, doctors will tell us not to increase exercise with any severity once we have become pregnant. This can become a problem if we want to stay trim throughout the pregnancy but have not been on a great workout routine prior to becoming pregnant. But there are still some things that we can do to help keep our prenatal weight down as well as shedding that extra fat after birthing a child.
One of the most important things we can do to help burn fat after birthing baby is to get on a routine. While this can be difficult with a newborn, it can be done. Building a solid routine that includes regular exercise is the first step to shedding all that baby weight. Exercise will be your best friend if you want to lose weight. Baby’s nap time can be spent doing aerobic exercise even in the home. There is a plethora of various sources for great aerobic workouts that can be easily done inside. Lately, there are many people who are doing simple dance routines that can be followed online to get the heart pumping and to burn fat.
You can also jump rope, do jumping jacks, or even simply run in place. Another option that many women like to do is to get out with the stroller and walk or jog. But what other ways can we start melting away all that fat we gained during pregnancy? Breast feeding is something else we can do to help boost weight loss after birth. Something many of us don’t know is that breast feeding burns a whopping 600 to 800 calories per day! So this is something that most of us can easily do to help start burning off those excess pounds.
Aside from aerobic exercise, it is recommended to lift weights, as well. Many women even choose to use their baby as their weights! This can help with strength training as your baby grows and becomes heavier, too. It is also important to get enough sleep. Stress can create excess cortisol in the body, which can lead to weight gain. This goes along with getting you and baby into a routine. It is also very important to eat right. This can be very hard when we are busy, but it is worthwhile to do some scouring of the internet to find easy and healthy snacks and meals. Find time in your new routine to do food prep for the week and make sure that you are getting plenty of fresh fruits and veggies to, not only, get trim but to also get the proper vitamins and nutrients needed to stay alert, active, and motivated. Last, but certainly not least, find other new moms to engage with and share tips and ideas for losing weight after baby. This can be one of the best things you can do after your new baby comes. Sharing with others can help to keep stress down and keep you motivated. Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey after baby! You can do it!
